Hi everyone. I am looking for a UK based Moody 44 for sale (or potentially a 425). Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have just posted a wanted ad here and been scouring the internet for a few months….. Thanks!! Laurie

Ian

Thanks Ian.

Are they a rare sighting in the UK market? I have not seen many……

Hi Laurie,

For me, the 1990's Moody 44 is the queen of the Moody range. Of the various layouts down below I would prefer the later, more traditional saloon with two settee berths, rather than the trendy armchairs to starboard, but that's a bit of a detail. UK based ones do come on the market, but they're snapped up pretty quickly so you have to keep your eyes peeled for a year or two to get a good one at a sensible price. It's a yacht which is worth making a delivery from anywhere in Europe imho, but you have to get the VAT situation sorted.

Remember, only 114 of these were built, it's not a Ben / Bav / Jeanneau, built by the thousand. If the average owner keeps them for 10 years, then only 11 will come on the market each year, worldwide and they are to be found all over the world.

Have you found the Moody Archive on this site?

Good hunting.

Peter.

Peter,

I completely agree about the trendy seats - particularly for family cruising.

I have read the Archive - it is a really great resource that will continue to be incredibly helpful.

The VAT problem is a tricky one. We really do want time to shake the boat down and get the children used to the boat before we head off - but they do seem much rarer in the Uk than elsewhere.

Thanks for the response - really helpful.

Laurie

Hi Laurie

We had the armchairs but turned them into a settee. Turned out really well.

Maggie,

The armchair conversion looks great. We had wondered whether it was possible to do that…..

Hi Laurie

As far as we were concerened this was a job for a joiner. He also created a bottle bank store behind the settee. There are several benefits for us including enabling a seaberth. We cut through the foreward bulkhead into the bunk room to give more length. The trotter box cut through is concealed behind the upholstery. Then again we didnt need the bunks which you might need. Good luck with your search.
